Are you our next Assistant Director of Summer Camp?

Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Summer Camp is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising the daily operations of the town's seasonal summer camp program with the Director. This role ensures a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for children while leading the staff and working closely with town officials, parents, and health inspectors to meet all operational, safety, and regulatory standards. Assist the Director with all these key responsibilities below.
 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement age-appropriate programming, activities, and special events.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise camp counselors, CITs, and volunteers.
  • Enforce health and safety protocols, including those set by the local Board of Health (e.g., NABOH), to maintain a safe and supportive environment.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the Board of Health, local officials, parents, and community partners.
  • Oversee registration, parent communications, and camper records, ensuring compliance with confidentiality and safety regulations.
  • Conduct daily staff meetings and performance evaluations halfway through then at the end.
  • Handle emergencies, incidents, and behavior issues professionally and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Ensure proper care & maintenance of the camp facilities and the equipment.
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Education, Child Development, or related field (or equivalent experience) preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children in a camp or educational setting; supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain before camp starts).
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts camp licensing regulations and health codes (e.g., 105 CMR 430) is a plus.
 
Compensation & Commitment:
  • $24.00-$25.50 based on qualifications and experience. This is a seasonal position with no benefits. 
  • Must be available for the duration of the camp dates and participate in the camp training June 17 and 18, 2026.
